Bamboo Rolling Mat, Called a makisu in Japanese, a bamboo rolling mat is used to compress soft materials into cylindrical forms, as with sea eel roll. A standard mat is about 9 inches by 9 1/2 inches (23cm x 23 cm) and is made by weaving together thin bamboo strips with strong cotton string. Remember to wash the mat with tepid running water after use. Wipe the mat dry with a cloth and leave it to dry completely before putting it away in order to avoid musty smells.
